• The Control Master

    for String Quintet

  • Introduction

This is a string quintet work for the short film "The Control Master". The plot tells the story of a woman who is robbed of the deformation machine by a bad guy, and is finally saved by a hero. The theme of the work is inspired by the film "I Love You Phillip Morris", using a lot of slip and chromatic scales to shape a humorous and dramatic musical style.

The first part of the work enters from the sliding sound theme of the violin sound part, while the other sound parts are set off by the jumping tone, and the main theme highlights the ease and bustle of urban life. When the heroine is robbed of the deformation machine by the bad guys and is changed into a puppy, the slide theme changes from uplink to downside. Then, a continuous contrast of the ascending chromatic scale foil the giant process of the bad guys, after which the melodic theme turns to play by the middle string parts, and the violin part introduces a fast downward arpeggio in accordance with the destructive action of the bad guys in the video.

The second part is a scene of the protagonists chasing each other. The heroine who becomes a puppy grabs the deformation machine back again from the bad guys. The composer used the string pizzicato as the rhythm of the chase and used many minor seconds to increase the tension. In the end, the composer again uses a descending chromatic transition from a bright major chord to a diminished chord, with the colour of a sudden change heralding a dramatic shift.
